We have come such a long way in a relatively short time. From cutting the first trails at the end of 2012, forming CORCA in 2015, and then signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Council in 2015 (see bottom of page).
CORCA has secured over $250K of Grant funding, and the Sunshine Coast Council have funded much more. Funding most of “Beez Knees” was a big achievement for the club and, more recently, the Sunshine Coast Council had contractors widen the road to include run-in lanes both ways and changed the entrance for better sight lines. Then in late 2019 was the completion of the new sealed carpark - another Council funded project. Just before Christmas 2019 some Community Benefit Scheme grant funding paid for another new trail - Fantales - and a shade sale structure.
Both CORCA and Sunshine Coast Council are committed to further development of Sugar Bag. The already developed and approved Master Plan includes future additions including a new green/multi-use trail, a pump track, a skills area, a dual slalom, green space, a child’s playground, Water, amenities block, shelters and BBQs.
A bike hub has been included that would have modern look shipping containers and shade sails that would be a coffee shop and a bike hire/repair centre as well.
Further to the master plan CORCA is advocating for a jump line with multiple skills level options. We know this would be popular and something the Sunshine Coast is missing.
CORCA and the Sunshine Coast Council have written and signed a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines both our roles, intent, commitment and guidelines.
